How to make cranberry lip scrub
Lip scrubs are a great addition to your lip care routine. They gently exfoliate, remove dead cells, moisturize lips, and make them soft and smooth. There are so many ways to make lip scrubs, and today I would like to share my approach to making amazing lip scrubs that are great products to make for yourself, as gifts for friends and family, or even to sell.
I made two versions of the lip scrub: the dark pink is with blackberry powder, and the light pink is with Cranberry powder.
What makes this scrub special is Dermofeel Viscolid (LipidThix Lotioncrafter).
Dermofeel Viscolid thickens oils and creates oil gel and soft balm textures. It works great in lip balms, lipsticks, massage gels, scrubs, and even emulsions to thicken and stabilize the oil phase.
Usage Rate: 1 - 35%
Melting point: has to be heated to 80 °C (176 °F)
The base of this formulation is castor oil. It is a very viscous, glossy oil, and it's used in all kinds of lip care formulations. I also added sunflower oil since it's very affordable and light.
But feel free to use a different oil or a combination of oils. For extra nourishment, I decided to include Cocoa butter, but if you prefer shea, mango, or kokum butter, you can make this substitution.
Blackberry Powder adds a nice color boost to the scrub, and it looks gorgeous! You can create many variations with all kinds of fruit or even herbal powders. Cranberry, apricot, Dragonfruit, Honey, Strawberry, and matcha powders are all great choices.
I added a Fruit Cocktail flavor oil (!) but this is totally optional.
Vitamin E protects those beautiful oils from oxidation, and Sugar gently exfoliates lips.
Cranberry Lip scrub
A 58.20% Castor Oil
A 20.00% Sunflower Oil
A 6.00% Dermofeel Viscolid
A 3.00% Cocoa butter
A 0.50% Vitamin E
B 3.00% Blackberry Powder
B 0.30% Fruit Cocktail Flavor Oil
C 11.00% Sugar
INSTRUCTIONS:
1. Weigh your A phase (oils, Dermofeel Viscolid, and Cocoa Butter) in a beaker and place in a water bath to melt and reach 80 °C. Once your oil mixture is at 80 °C, you can take it off the heat and let it cool while stirring.
2. At 65 °C, you can add your fruit powder and flavor oil to the oil mixture and stir very well. I used a mini mixer for this task.
3. Continue stirring once in a while, and when your scrub base is at 40–35 °C, you can add sugar and stir to combine.
4. Package and enjoy!
