Winter Berries & Jojoba Foaming Sugar Scrub

I love making all kinds of scrubs: emulsified scrubs, lip scrubs, gelly scrubs, and of course foaming sugar scrubs. They have this wonderful airy texture of whipped frosting and leave the skin gently exfoliated, cleansed, and moisturized.

The bulk of foaming scrubs comes from Foaming Bath Whip (aka Foaming Bath Batter) which is a pearl white, semisolid surfactant blend which can be transformed into all kinds of body treats with a help of a mixer. This product is very versatile and you don't have to limit yourself to sugar scrubs only. Try this lovely Kaolin Clay &Lime Shaving Soap recipe and enjoy the lovely, silky leather and creamy texture of this product.

Many suppliers offer this wonderfully versatile product but I like to make my base from scratch using this recipe. If you're at the starting point of your do-it-yourself journey then it could be quite overwhelming to get all those ingredients so I would recommend buying foaming bath whip from a reputable supplier.

Crème de la crème

of a bath tub world

The recipe I am sharing today requires only 6 ingredients including a colorant (mica) and jojoba beads. Jojoba beads are biodegradable and come in a variety of colors. They're a little bit pricey but you can totally swap them out for poppy seeds or leave them out altogether. I like to use them in my lip scrubs too because they add a touch of festivity to a basic formulation.

***If you're planning to sell you scrubs it's recommended to include a broadspectrum preservative in this formulation (Liquid Germall Plus, Euxyl PE9010 are my preservatives of choice)

SUBSTITUTIONS:

Sugar - you can use any kind of sugar or even salt.

Fragrance oil - you can use essential oil instead.

Macadamia Oil - any carrier oil will work.

Jojoba beads - poppy seeds, cranberry seeds, blueberry seeds would be also lovely in the scrub.

Mica - any skin safe cosmetic colorant will work.

RECIPE

To make a 500g batch of this scrub you need:

Foaming Bath Batter - 233g

Fragrance oil - 24g (I suggest to use less, my fragrance was very weak so I had to use it a maximum allowed usage rate)

Macadamia oil - 8g

Sugar - 233g (use more for a scrubbier product and for a less exfoliating scrub reduce the amount of sugar)

Jojoba beads - 1.5g (you can use more)

Mica - 0.25g (add more for a more vibrant color)

INSTRUCTIONS

1. Start with weighing your foaming whip base.

2. Whip it with a hand mixer or a stand mixer until the base has almost doubled in size.

3. Once your mixture looks all creamy, airy, and whippy you can add your oil and fragrance oil. I mixed mica with my oils.

4. Weigh your sugar, jojoba beads, and have them ready to go.

5. Slowly add your exfoliants to your whipped base and whip until well combined. Don't overwhip your mixture because it can deflate!

6. Now it's time to fill up our jars. You can use a spoon or an ice cream scoop or get all fancy and pipe your lovely scrub into your jars! You can decorate them with soap embeds, colored salts, glitter, etc.
