Festive Bath Truffles. Formulation #1: Oatmeal, Milk, and Honey

Bath truffles are a luxurious version of bath bombs. They fizz and foam and they're packed with beautiful, moisturizing oils and butters. As a bonus, they're very easy to make because you don't have to worry about activating them because these bath beauties don't contain any water or witch hazel! Cocoa butter is solid enough to hold them together very well so it acts as a hardener and as a lovely emollient which your skin is going to love especially in the dry winter months.

Pecan Pie Bath Truffles with Cocoa Butter and Cupuacu Butter

How to Make Luxurious Bath Truffles. Two Recipes

My first formulation is based on my Oatmeal, Milk, and Honey Bath Bombs. Super Foamy recipe with a few tweaks. I added honey powder and goat's milk powder which are both known to be beneficial for the skin. If you don't have goat's milk powder you can use regular milk powder or coconut milk powder. For a foamier and a slower-fizzing experience substitute some of the baking soda for your powdered surfactant of choice (SLSA, SCI are both excellent choices). I use the unbeatable combo of shea butter and cocoa butter in my truffles but you can use just cocoa butter or cocoa butter+mango butter. I don't recommend using just shea or mango because they're softer than cocoa butter.

*This batch (250g) makes 13-14 bath truffles if you're going to use the same mold. I love it and I highly recommend it for bath truffles. It's large enough to make multiple batches of multicolored bath truffles or mini bath bombs or scrub cubes.

*This batch costs me 2.46$ but if you buy your ingredients in bulk your costs are going to be lower. So each of those little truffles costs 0.17$ (ingredients only, the packaging is not included in the calculations).

  1. Melt your cocoa butter, shea butter and your oil of choice in a double boiler.

2. In the meanwhile, sift all of your dry ingredients into a large mixing bowl. Stir to combine.

3. Once your butters are melted stir in polysorbate 80 and your fragrance oil. I also added Decyl Glucoside (it's a liquid surfactant) but this step is totally optional.

4. Add your liquids to your dry mix. Stir with a spatula first and then start kneading with your hands or, if you're planning on making a larger batch, you can use a stand mixer or even a hand mixer with a hook attachment.

5. Fill up you molds, pack well. Make sure there are no airholes left.

6. Let your bath truffles harden for a few hours or overnight. They pop right out.

7. I decorated my Oatmeal, Milk, and Honey bath truffles with cocoa butter drizzle, biodegradable glitter, oat flakes, and sugar sprinkles.
