Bubble Frosting for Bath Bombs. FINALLY

As many of you already know I have a bath bomb frosting recipe in the files of the DIY Bath Bomb Recipe group over on Facebook. It's a luxurious, very moisturizing, slightly bubbly, and foamy formulation meant to give the skin an extra nourishing boost. It's very versatile, it's easy to make and it has a lot of cocoa butter which hardens this frosting nicely.

As good and delicious as my Bubbly Truffle Frosting sounds many of you really wanted something more bubbly. I've been working on the formulation for quite a while. To be honest, I only had one batch that hasn't completely hardened. My goal was to formulate a product that

- would be easy to pipe

- would harden in 24-48 hours

- would not set up too quickly

- would give a nice and bubbly bath experience

To make this recipe you will need

Baking Soda

Tapioca Starch

Kaolin Clay

SLSa (you can also use SCS)

Cream of Tartar

Cocoa Butter

Cocamidopropyl Betaine

99% Isopropyl Rubbing Alcohol

Polysorbate 80

Fragrance oil (optional)

Colorant (mica, lake, water-soluble dye - optional)

RECIPE (250g batch)

62.5g Baking Soda

32.5g Tapioca Starch

25g Kaolin Clay

25g SLSa (or SCS)

12.5 Citric Acid

*you can make a bubblier bubble frosting by substituting some of the baking soda for more powdered surfactant like SLSa (Sodium Lauryl Sulfoacetate), SCS (Sodium Coco-Sulfate), or SCI (Sodium Cocoyl Isethionate )

25g Cocoa butter(melted)

25g Cocamidopropyl Betaine

30-35g 99% Alcohol

*the amount will depend on the humidity, you might need more a little less.

5g Polysorbate 80

2.5g Fragrance oil (optional)

colorant (optional)

INSTRUCTIONS

1. Weigh cocoa butter into a heat-proof glass and place it in a water bath to melt.

2. In the meanwhile, sift your dry ingredients in a mixing bowl or a large glass container. If using micas or lakes you can mix them with your dry ingredients.

3. Weigh your liquid ingredients, add your melted cocoa butter. I recommend adding 20g of alcohol first, and add more as needed after incorporating your liquids into your dry mix.

4. Add your liquids to your dry ingredients, mix well until your mixture is smooth and looks like real frosting. Add more alcohol if you're mixture is too thick. If your mixture is too thin wait a few minutes, alcohol is going to evaporate and your frosting is going to thicken.

5. Scoop your frosting into a piping bag and start decorating your bath bombs and bath bomb cupcakes. If you have a little bit of frosting left you can pipe small flowers or stars, let them dry, you can use them later for decorating your bath creations.

250g of the frosting was enough to pipe 16 small (50g) bath bombs.

You can decorate your bath bomb cupcakes with botanicals, soap embeds, colored salts, sugar sprinkles, cocoa butter drizzle, glitter, mica drizzle, etc.
