Rose Geranium & Grapefruit Creamy Sugar Scrub

I've been working on this recipe for quite some time now and I couldn't be more excited to share this formulation with you. Because what's the point of having a successful experience if you can't share it with those who understand it the most.

There're so many things that I love about this product that I have no idea where to start. It has the most wonderful texture, it's soft, creamy, rich, and quite thick. It doesn't crumble and holds its shape perfectly. It exfoliates gently without irritating the skin. When you apply it to the skin the scrub turns into a thick, rich cream that moisturizes and hydrates the skin because of all the lovely honey and glycerin included in the concoction. The essential oil blend I used is not overpowering and plays well with the theme and light pink color of the product extremely well. The texture is a little bit similar to my Orange &Cinnamon Gelly Sugar Scrub. But maybe, instead of reading all these praises, it's better to make it and see for yourself that I'm not overestimating the amazingness of this recipe?

Let's take a look at the recipe and how much it costs (a 200g batch+a jar). You could easily double or triple or quadrupole the formulation by using Spreadsheets I shared in this post.

200g = 1.79$

1.79+0.5=2.29$

SUBSTITUTIONS:

1.You can use any lightweight oils instead of MCT oil and Sweet Almond Oil.

2. Ercamulse LF10 aka Soft and Silky Emulsifying Wax could be substituted for Polawax or Emulsifying Wax NF.

3. You could use Shea Butter or Mango Butter instead of Cocoa Butter but your scrub would be a little bit softer than mine.

4. Ressasol AGM - Cocamidopropyl Betaine. If you make Foaming Bath Whip from scratch then you probably have it on hand.

5. Polysorbate 20 - Polysorbate 60 / Polysorbate 80

6. Coral Scrub - Jojoba Beads/Walnut Shell Powder or even ground coffee like in this Chocolate Scrub. I used jojoba beads in my lip scrubs and they exfoliate very gently.

7. Geranium and Grapefruit EO - any Essential oils of your choice or fragrance oil.

8. Paraben K Preservative - Phenonip, Opthiphen

Coral Scrub (cellulose acetate) - is an insoluble cellulose derivative regarded as a nontoxic, nonirritant and biodegradable material

INSTRUCTIONS

1. Weigh the A Phase and put it in a double boiler to melt.

Xanthan gum is a star of this scrub

2. Weigh the B phase ingredients in a heatproof measuring glass and also put it in a double boiler.

3. When the A phase ingredients have melted through it's time to combine the A and B phases. I used a mini mixer but if you make a larger batch then it would be a good idea to use a stick blender or an immersion blender. Let it cool for about 10 minutes.

4. In the meanwhile we could measure our exfoliants.

5. Once our base has cooled down we can start adding our exfoliants. The mixture is going to get thicker and thicker.

6. Make a scrub test. Take a small amount of the scrub and apply it to your skin. Is it scrubby enough? If your skin wants more exfoliation then go ahead and add more sugar or your exfoliant of choice.
