FOAMING BATH WHIP

In my last post I gave you a recipe of a luxurious exfoliating body wash in which I used foaming bath whip base made from scratch.

When it comes to foaming bath whip recipes there're a few options online. Some of them are completely free and that's what I used and I liked so I am going to stick to this recipe. I am going to make 1 kg batch today so it'll last me for a while.

As a side note, foaming bath whip aka foaming bath batter and creamy soap base is also available in many online soap and candle supply stores. But I found that it's cheaper to make it yourself and it's just nice to have everything made from scratch. However, if you're just starting out and you don't even know if you're going to pursue this business of homemade bath products then maybe it would be more cost-effective for you to buy a small container of this stuff and see for yourself what it has to offer.

Here is the link to the original recipe which I tweaked a little. And now let's take a look at my version. I will give you the formula in % because it's more professional and it makes scaling easier.

% Ingredient Name
22 Distilled Water
22 Cocamidopropyl Betaine
20 Glycerin
7 Stearic Acid
28
Sodium Cocoyl Isethionate
1 Preservative of choice (Euxyl PE 9010 or Liquid Germall Plus at 0.5%)
If you want a slightly softer product then increase your liquids (Glycerin, Cocamidopropyl Betain, or Water). And if you think that your product might be too soft then adding a little bit of stearic acid will fix your issue.

Now, let's see how much of each ingredient we need to make a 1kg batch.

Amount Ingredient Name
220 Distilled Water
220 Cocamidopropyl Betain
200 Glycerin
70 Stearic Acid
280 SCI (Sodium Cocoyl Isethionate)
10 Euxyl PE 9010 (or your preservative of choice)

Instructions

  1. Prepare a water bath by adding water to a saute pan.

2. Mix all of your ingredients (except the preservative) in a heatproof container and whisk carefully until your ingredients are well combined. I used a glass Pyrex cup with was just a little bit too small for my batch and it was a pain to stir my mixture.

that's how it looks in the beginning

that's about 10-15 minutes later

3. Place the container in the water bath on medium heat.

4. Stir occasionally until your mixture is completely uniform with no clumps and no grains of stearic acid. It took me about 40 minutes to achieve this consistency. If you make a smaller batch then you'll get there faster.

creamy, uniform, no grains so it's time to blend!

5. Use a stick blender or an immersion blender to blend your mixture just to make sure that everything is well combined.

blend it up!

6. Now let the whip cool down until 40 C and add your preservative. Mix well. If you use a different preservative make sure to use it at the recommended safety rate.

still a little warm

finally it's time to add the preservative

7. Scoop your foaming bath whip into a sterilized glass or plastic container and label it with the name of the product, the date of production, the amount.

and here we are!
